We generally peel off certain foods while eating .We are not
aware of their health properties. The outer most skin of some foods has
essential nutritional properties.
1.Apple:
The outer skin can lower bad cholesterol and lower body fat
.Hence, protects from obesity, diabetes, heart diseases.
2.Almond:
The brown skin promotes good bacteria in the gut and thus,
aids in digestion. So, don’t buy the silvered variety, next time.
3.Citrus fruits:
These fruit’s skin contains four times more fiber than the
fruit itself. Grate some orange zest onto deserts, lemon zest onto pasta.
Orange peel covered with dark chocolate is very delicious and good for your
health.
4.Kiwi fruit:
The outer skin contains three times the antioxidants than
the pulp. It fights the bad bacteria. You can choose ‘gold ‘kiwi fruit which
has less hairy skin, if you find the normal kiwi fruit to be more hairy. You
can also add the skin of the fruit while juicing it.
5.Pineapple:
The tough core not the pricky one contains fiber, vitamin C
and an enzyme called bromelain, which breaks down food and dead human tissues
in the tummy and thus protects our digestive system.
6.Banana:
The peel contains serotonin, mood balancing hormone thus it
helps to ease depression. It also contains antioxidant lutein which protects
the eye cells from harmful ultraviolet rays.
The peel can be taken after putting it through a juicer.
7.Garlic:
The peel contains six different types of antioxidants. On
peeling the cloves it removes certain antioxidant which helps fighting the
ageing process and protects the heart also.
8.Potatoes:
One fist sized potato skin provides half the daily
recommended intake of soluble fiber, potassium, iron, phosphorus, zinc and
vitamin C.
